Welcome to HAVE FUN WITH ENGLISH

I would like to welcome all students at the EOI Pontevedra to a blog where they will find a lot of information about the school together with a wide range of activities to practise and improve their English. I´m sure most of them will find the activities in the blog both amusing and enjoyable! Hope you learn a lot... and please, let me know if there is anything you want me to include!!

HAPPY 8M 2022: INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY馃檶馃挭

Last year I took the golden opportunity to participate in an #EscuelasAmigas project about inspiring female figures from Galicia and Navarra that forged the way for future women generations not only in their areas but also across Spain. The project evolved from January to April 2021 and involved C1 English students from EOI Pontevedra and EOI Pamplona. My supportive fellow teacher was @Cristinakata and I also want to take advantage of the occasion to appreciate her work. I feel so grateful! We wouldn't have done it without her and her motivating students!

During the project, we shared information about these remarkable women and learned why and how their personalities became so influential. Here they are, together with the name of every single student at EOI Pontevedra and Pamplona that made this possible:

This year I feel honour-bound to commemorate that project as it brought attention to issues just as female cultural achievements, gender equality, and violence and abuse against women. Re-listening to the podcast and re-watching the video we designed then is my particular celebration of womanhood today March 8 2022!

ESCUELAS AMIGAS BOUNCES BACK!

#Escuelas Amigas is a project that brings together Language Schools (EOIs) around Spain. Teachers and students work jointly to learn about their different cultures, practice their English skills and, overall, have fun! I have been taking part in the project with my students for three years now. In this third edition, we are going partners with C1 English students at EOI M谩laga. The South of Spain awaits us! We just can't wait!

Taking off will include the following steps:

  • Introducing each other in a Padlet board to meet our fellow mates and their teacher Blanca in M谩laga. I really appreciate the fact that Blanca and her students have shared their introductions board with us! You rule!

  • Filling in a questionnaire which will definitely be our roadmap during the project. We have decided to empower our students by asking them how the project will evolve. The google form questionnaire will definitely become the linchpin of the whole adventure.

Hopefully, the final episodes will help us discover a lot of interesting information about different places and areas in both cities: M谩laga and Pontevedra.

Blanca and I count on our C1 students to shape this cooperative podcast program together. That is why we have asked them to tailor it by taking these first steps and adapting them to meet their own needs as English learners. In for a new adventure?

#ESCUELAS AMIGAS 20-21: A COLLABORATION PROJECT

Dear all,馃憢

It is already happening. My C1 students are about to embark on an exciting adventure contributing to a new project for #ESCUELAS AMIGAS.

I will show you the bits and pieces of the project on the blog. However, I am happy to inform you that we have just got in touch with @cristinakata, an English teacher at EOI Pamplona, and her C1 English students there. We have decided to work on remarkable women from our area to let students in Pamplona and Pontevedra discover some interesting facts about hidden female figures they should all know.

I hope this project helps students at both schools improve their linguistic skills. It will definitely open their minds to new cultures and traditions: those that students from Pamplona are willing to share with us. I have promised my students the tasks will be as easy as pie馃槄 but they will definitely boost their speaking skills!馃帳馃帳

I am convinced that this fresh challenge will contribute to their motivation and interest in not only English but also Galician culture!

I´ll keep you posted about how the project evolves!

ESCUELAS AMIGAS: FINAL PROJECT

Not only is the course coming to an end, but our Escuelas Amigas project is also about to finish. Students at both schools Pamplona and Pontevedra have been working hard to reach the final step: "Your favourite spot" listening activity. Up for a challenge? Click the last link on the presentation below and try to complete the task. Can you guess all the places and put the pictures in order?

I am definitely sure all of them agree that this has been an unrivalled experience. We have worked hand in hand together with students in Pamplona and discovered a lot of magical places in the city! We have also recommended some charming spots in Pontevedra. Now we are all looking forward to meeting our mates in person.

I would also love to personally thank Carlos and his awesome students for their empathy and good work. The project has been a real treat! They have made a difference!

Should you go and visit Pamplona, all of the spots here are a must! Do not miss them! Great job, guys!

#ESCUELAS AMIGAS STRIKES BACK!

Hi everyone!

Do you remember our dearest friends from EOI Pamplona?馃拰 Right now they are all putting up with exactly the same confinement period we are going through. So, their teacher Carlos and I have been coming up with ideas to get you connected again to motivate you and finish off our "Discover my City" project.

With this idea in mind, here is the final step. One last thing I would like you to do for me馃檹:

1. 馃挕 Choose your favourite place in your area. Bear in mind that you are going to recommend our friends in Pamplona to visit the place as soon as the quarantine is over! Be original!
2. 馃帳 Record yourself on vocaroo.com describing that place: location, history, why is it your favourite place... I am definitely sure you can be creative enough so as to give a fantastic depiction. Your recording must be up to 2min long.
3. 馃摤 Send me your recording and a picture of your place (it can be downloaded from the internet) before 3 May.

Do not miss this great opportunity to exhibit your awesome C1 English skills! Avoid tired and overused words like "beautiful" or "pretty". Use complex sentences and wide vocabulary and make a great impression on both students and teachers alike!

I am looking forward to all your recordings!
Stay safe 馃彙 and keep in touch!

ESCUELAS AMIGAS: WE NEED YOU!

Have you already found out what this shared project is all about? Last call for C1 students at both EOI Pontevedra and EOI Pamplona! We are about to take off! Welcome on board! Step one... introducing ourselves!

Use your grid to tell us about you. Bear in mind we don't know each other, so what makes you... you!

Then, follow your teacher's instructions to answer some of the videos. Let us know how the project is making you feel!

ESCUELAS AMIGAS: A TEAMWORK PROJECT

My C1 students are about to take part in an extremely exciting project built up by EOI Pamplona. Just a few weeks before Christmas I decided to embark on this joint adventure of collaborative work and teachers' cooperation:

As a result, I got in contact with Carlos, who also works in Pamplona, and we are both now trying to come up with ideas that might help us achieve a successful outcome by getting our students in touch!

It seems obvious that this project will bring real benefits for our students, including practising English outside the classoom, which has always been one of our main priorities, and getting to know other cultures and ways of learning.

Stay tuned for more info on how the project evolves. You will soon meet all of us and find out more on our final goal!
